Who is responsible for the battery passport — you or your European buyer?

Draft — placeholder content. Not yet reviewed for publication.

Under the EU Battery Regulation, the battery passport is the responsibility of the economic operator that places the battery on the EU market. For most Indian exporters, that is the European importer — not the Indian maker.

So why should you care?

Because your importer cannot fill a passport without your data. Chemistry, materials, test results, production dates and serial numbers all come from you.

When the deadline gets close, importers will choose suppliers who can hand over this data quickly and correctly. Suppliers who cannot may lose orders.

What being ready looks like

  • Your test reports and certificates are current and in one place.
  • You have the data your cell suppliers need to provide.
  • You can issue, or help issue, a passport and QR label for every battery.
